Day 8
pos 09deg06S 103deg36W
Course is approx 265deg
2064 miles to go
All is well on shimmi, the sea is rough again, not quite as bad as 2 days ago... On the good side the wind is a steady 12-15 knots from the SE, but with the rough sea i was not quite ready to put up the spinnaker and we are still sailing with one reef in the main. I have not had to touch the sails and we are doing around 6-8 knots and we should clock another 160 plus mile day. Yesterday was a 168 mile day and the day before that was 152 miles so we are running along just fine in the trade winds heading directly for Fatu Hiva. But we are rolling around a lot now and i can feel the sea state worsening as i am writing this. 'Thud'. Another flying fish just flew into one of the closed saloon hatches. Cant blame them as it is pitch dark outside. The kids are great, we made a fish out of a cardboard tube which was duly painted in Nemo colours. A Lego Zurg has risen from the lego tray to challenge the 'real' toy Zurg. Andy and I spent the afternoon washing all the sheets, duvets, Pj's and so on which got puked on by Josh 2 nights ago. This is quite a process as we wash and rinse everything in salt and then do a final fresh water rinse. Our water tank is now just above half and we need some rain soon to fill it up again. Andy is back in the game, he is feeling better but not 100%, he made dinner which was fillet steak (no jokes), potatoes and hot veggie salad. Washed down by a few very cold beers (my first beers since leaving Wreck Bay!). We are more than a third of the way but less than half... nobody is counting days as we have so long to go still .... its just a haze of holding on with one hand, listening to the mainsheet blocks 'crack' as the load and unload, playing with kids, feeding them, doing watches during a moonless black night.... we have not seen a ship for 5 days. I have no lines in the water anymore as we cant pay them the needed attention.
We miss you all, we are in the vasbyt phase.
Cheers
