Day 21 (Chonny's version)
+-9pmcal, 0300UTC ??
pos 10deg06S, 135deg34
Distance to go +-200 miles to somewhere in the Marquesas
We have been rationing one tomato and one apple per day. We each have a slice of apple and Indie gets the core. We have 200 miles to go but not enough fuel to motor the whole way. We have had NO WIND for 3 days now. Lots of rain. The guys are stoked that the water tank is full....for crying in a bucket I'd rather have the wind and get there. I'm terrified of just having to float around for days on end 50 miles from our destination (after doing 3200 miles) with no wind and no fuel. But we have WATER and tons of pasta, rice, flour, canned food.....
G had an excellent snooze from 1pm - 5.30pm yesterday and was all ready for his watch 8 - midnight. He woke me up at 1.ooam to say that the autopilot was broken. I worst fear ever. So I started "steering" the boat and he started disassembling the thing. It was like a science experiment. Anyway, after working nonstop from 1am - 5am (every tool on the boat was used) and thinking he had fixed it it all just blew to shit again (the rudder is vibrating badly on the starboard side). The guys switched off the engines and went to sleep whilst the Shimmi floated around aimlessly. I only steered from about 1am - 1.15am! I was so stressed that concentration on a bobbing they call it a steering compass was not on.
SO NOW G + A are on 3 hours shifts for steering and sleeping. I do the rest: kiddies, cooking etc
G's skin is so paper thin from the eczema that it is near bleeding. I think the higher dosage of cortosone is slowly kicking in. Face is not so puffy.
Josh and Indie are my little hero's. Yes, they can drive me completely insane but when you add up the insane bits in a 12 hour day it's usually only a few minutes.
Chonny over and out.
