Mal de Mer

Our first attempt to sail down to Matuku was on thursday, but the wind was still too much on the nose and so we turned back, rather waiting for more north in the wind. Then yesterday (Friday) we tried again, the wind was bit broader, 20 knots ESE, we FLEW down to Koro Island, beating in bumpy conditions, doing 8-10 knots with full sail, exciting sailing, but the close hauled sailing got the better of Liz, and almost claimed Jacques as well. So we decided to break the journey and let our guests recover. A grib file also indicated that the next day would have better conditions. So now we are anchored in the lee of Koro Island, 35 miles south of Savusavu. Its a lovely anchorage, with beautiful coral and dense tropical jungle on a steep mountain side. On the way down we caught a Mahi-Mahi which was lunch (fried in beer batter) and dinner (on the barbeque). Tomorrow morning we will try sail the rest of the way down to Matuku. Wish us luck, because if the wind is nor more out of the north tomorrow we probably wont make it to the Lau's...
