Day 5
5pm:
Since this morning the sea has finally gone 'pacific', glassy smooth with gentle swell moving through. Everybody much happier. Andy is better but still not 100%. We have been motoring since 4am when that SE finally ran out of steam...still keeping the sails up, there is a little 3-6 knot puff every now and then. We are doing 5-6 knots under one engine, looks like we will drop the pick in Wreck Bay late tomorrow afternoon. This morning there were 5 or 6 flying fish on the tramp, i rigged one up as a lure but still no luck in the fishing dept. We took some fish out the freezer for tonight's meal: its a red snapper from Morro Negrito which Chantal and Andy are going to grill in a coconut and curry sauce. Indie is happy as he can finally walk around without falling over. Josh is surfing the saloon cushions down the stairs. Amazing how quickly the kids adjusted to this cruise... Josh has not asked once why its taking so long to get there.
Trev there is no rush with the NZ info... its going to be a while before we get there!
10pm:
(03:00UTC) pos 00deg34.752N, 88deg43.109W, speed 6,5knots, wind is 4-6knots SE, motorsailing with one engine. We are 104 miles from Wreck Bay and 40 miles from the equator which we should cross around 4-5am in the morning. Our ETA is between 1400 and 1800 depending on our speed. I have plenty of fuel to spare, so if needed I will run both engines to get to the anchorage before dark. Sea is lovely but strange: swells of more or less equal size are moving in a northerly AND southerly direction. Its a small southerly ground swell and then also the NE swell created by that gale moving through each other, its like a surreal smooth optical illusion. Its full moon, big and as orange as an orange. Hold thumbs for other kiddie boats at Wreck Bay!
